Environmental Engineers and Scientists – Early Career Staff Position

We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals looking to grow their experience in surface water, groundwater, wastewater, and stormwater quality engineering, regulation, and science. The successful candidate will work under senior supervision and alongside professional staff on projects that include: regulatory analysis; quantitative data, statistical, and geospatial analyses; surface and groundwater monitoring and special studies; development of watershed and groundwater management plans and reports; TMDL development, planning, and implementation; wastewater and stormwater NPDES permitting; salt and nutrient management planning; and related civil/environmental engineering.

  • Familiarity with watershed planning, best management practice implementation, and Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs);
  • Understanding of conceptual model development and/or numerical modeling of surface water and/or groundwater at site-specific, watershed, and regional scales;
  • Experience with water quality monitoring and methods used to collect and analyze surface water, groundwater, and environmental data, including an understanding of and ability to perform complex data analyses using appropriate environmental statistical methods;
  • Experience with database management, ArcGIS, Spatial Analyst, and GIS web applications;
  • Ability to develop and maintain web-based interfaces, portals, and dashboards to present complex environmental data, information, and results.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A master’s degree from an engineering or science program with an environmental, hydrology, biology, ecology, or toxicology emphasis;

OR

  • A bachelor’s degree from an engineering or science program with an environmental, hydrology, biology, ecology, or toxicology emphasis, PLUS a minimum of at least 2 summers of relevant internship experience in the water quality and engineering field.

Experienced Environmental Engineers – Stormwater Focus

LWA is seeking applicants for project level 2 or senior level stormwater engineers. The qualified applicant will perform both traditional and specialized services characteristic of LWA, with an emphasis on stormwater engineering and implementation planning. The successful candidate will work with other professional staff on projects that may include: watershed management plans; TMDL implementation planning; wastewater and stormwater NPDES permitting; best management practice identification and implementation; surface and ground water monitoring, surface and ground water quality studies; surface and groundwater modeling; salt and nutrient management planning; stormwater resource planning; and related civil/environmental engineering and environmental science projects.

  • Professional Engineer Certification, preferably from California;
  • Green infrastructure/low-impact development design experience;

  • At least 3 years of directly related work experience in the environmental engineering industry.

Professional Geologist

LWA is rapidly growing in the groundwater market sector and is seeking motivated individuals for challenging groundwater-related projects. We are looking for a professional geologist to perform duties related to developing groundwater sustainability plans, feasibility studies, ground water investigations, ground water modeling, surface/groundwater interaction, groundwater monitoring, and implementation of groundwater recharge projects. LWA will also provide candidates with opportunities to work on stormwater recharge, water resource, wastewater, and recycled water projects.
